News clippings — December 2004

December 1, 2004 by Tara Brabazon

As foreshadowed in November, we have a new honorary member of the PCC. Angela Jones has given birth to Lilith Jones-Thomas. Already nick-named 'Rock 'n' Roll Lily' we congratulate Dave and Ange and wish their new family a peaceful and joyous Festive Season.

It is also my pleasure to introduce some outstanding written work produced by Collective members in the last month. Leanne McRae has produced another fine journalistic piece on teaching and learning for Online Opinion. Paul Stock has written and published a fascinating article on the politics of citation in Campus Review. Also, Adam Trainer has seen his outstanding research on Donnie Darko emerge in the most recent Metro Magazine. All this work is beautifully written and offers incisive commentary on teaching, learning, writing and film making. Well done to the three of you.

Many Collective members have presented papers at the national Cultural Studies conference recently held in Perth. I hope we will see some reviews of papers — and articles based on this work — emerging in the coming months. Finally, a personal thank you from the Director. I was fortunate enough to be a Finalist for Australian of the Year in the last month, from nominations by the Collective. I hope that I represented you well. It was a wonderful experience and I thank you for the opportunity. Onward to January!
