Dr Debbie Hindley was Research Fellow for the Centre for Advanced Consumer Research at The University of Western Australia's Faculty of Law in 2007-2008.

Debbie's PhD thesis In the Outer — Not on the Outer: Women and Australian Rules Football was passed in 2006 and supervised by Professor Tara Brabazon at Murdoch University. The thesis examined the relationship between Australian Rules football and women and established the significance of women's contribution to Australian football through professional, volunteer and supporter activities. In 2008 it was published by VDM.

Debbie has been a consultant to the Western Australian Football Commission, West Coast Eagles and Therapy Focus Inc.
