Background information and interests

Music is the reason I became interested in Cultural Studies, because it let me find a way to write the passion I feel as a fan of music. My main areas of interest have surrounded music, I wrote my Honours thesis on Ian Curtis and am currently doing my PhD thesis on Billy Bragg. I am particularly interested in local music scenes and in listening to new music and exploring it's potential for creating social and political change.

Publications
I did my Honours thesis on Ian Curtis from Manchester band Joy Division, the culmination of a lifetime of fandom. I have also written two Chapters in the book Liverpool of the South Seas which is coming out in October. The first chapter 'The Wide Open Road' was an investigation of some snap shots of Perth's popular music history, looking at the bands The Triffids and the Stems and of course the late Bon Scott. The second - 'D.I.Y D'n'B' was a look at the effects of technology on the drum and bass scene in Western Australia. I am currently researching Billy Bragg for my PhD thesis.
