Once more, busy month for members. We have been travelling (again), but also achieving.

Major congratulations to Jodie Bonomini who has completed her Bachelor degree, graduating on September 21 this month. Jodie is a remarkable film maker and film historian. She is an incisive thinker about the visual environment, and we all acknowledge her remarkable achievement and the continual achievements in her career.

Sonia Bellhouse has also been busy, being asked to contribute an article for the PEMS — Part time, mature aged and external students — newsletter. She has also just returned from the United Kingdom. It is great to have her back.

Joel Matthews, our roving scholar and writer in Japan, completed his Masters entrance exam during September. He's been working hard but all of us in the PCC are extremely proud of him. Remarkably, he is also starting to learn Chinese. And he is on the road again, going to Canada for seven days in early October. Well done, Joel. We miss you very much. We will expect a Canadian report on your return.

The final news emerged on the last day of September. Shahn Rayner nominated me for the Telstra Business Woman of the Year, and I was fortunate to be a finalist for this event. Although I did not win, it was an absolute pleasure to be with Shahn and her mother Juliana.

Shahn and her mother Juliana.

Shahn and her mother Juliana.

They remain remarkable role models. They are confident, passionate, intelligent and caring women. We had a lovely luncheon, and I thank Shahn for her confidence in not only me, but the Collective and the work that we do.

See you all in October.
